Scope and Contents

In this collection, there is a plaque for Lambda Sigma Kappa and an event invitation that shows his placement as fraternity Chaplain Included is another event invitation for the pledge dance of 1939 along with fraternity Mother Harris. There is also an issue of the H-owl-R, the Lambda Sigma Kappa bulletin. The collection also contains another pledge dance invitation for Beta Kappa and Pi Phi along with a Christmas dinner invitation. There are two commencement bulletins, one for Sunday June 4th, and the other for Monday June 5th along with a black tassel. Included is his graduation rose that was given to him by the junior class of 1938-1939. There is a newspaper article, along with a photo and caption mentioning Sodacek’s prom king win and that he was the junior class president. There is a flower from the bouquet that was present to his homecoming queen. There are Homecoming invitations from 1937-1939. There is a letter of his nomination to represent Carthage College in the “Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges” along with the newspaper article stating all of Carthage College’s nominations. There are four pictures which portray members of his hall including his roommate. There are three bulletins from performances by the Trinity Lutheran Church for the years 1937-1939. Present are flowers from the Pi Kappa Delta Banquet Culver-Stockton for the years 1937-1939 and his invitation for 1939 at Augustana College. There is a program from the Illinois-Wisconsin Pi Kappa Delta Province Convention. His letter award for debate along with a bulletin of a Carthage v. DeKalb meet are included.

Biographical or Historical Information

August A. Skodacek, originally from Posen, Illinois, graduated from Carthage in 1939 with a B.A. in Philosophy. He was named to "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities," was a member of C-Club, chaplain of Lamda Sigma Kappa, and member of Pi Kappa Delta.  He was the junior class president and in the same year also became prom king. He was also involved in the Trinity Lutheran Church choir and the debate team.

The collection was originally held in a plastic binder.  The binder sleeves were removed and placed in the box in the original order.
